Recently I read an article that challenged the reader to stop looking at the generational curse and start focusing on the generational blessing. It got me to thinking about the power of perspective.
It’s so easy to zoom in on what’s wrong, what’s missing, what’s broken. It’s almost a reflex to see the glass as half empty. We can readily see ourselves as victims, overlooked, or mistreated.
But what is going right? What do you have going for your right now that can help you reach your place of promise? What do you possess that can propel you to greatness?
We all have something positive in our corner. We all have a talent, gift, idea, or experience that God wants to use for His glory. Some of us need to shift our eyes off of the problems and turn our gaze over to the positives.
The Bible tells us “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” (Proverbs 23:7) How are you thinking about yourself? What is your outlook about your own situation? Are you so fixated on your issues that they are defining who you are and what you become? Or are you thinking from the place of power and strength that you have in Jesus Christ?
The enemy will use any opening he can to keep us from our God-given destiny. For some of us, it’s magnifying our ‘curse’ causing us to forget about our blessing. We cannot allow any opening for the devil to usurp our promise. It is up to us to keep him in check.
In Deuteronomy 30, the Lord told the Israelites that they had the choice between life and death, blessings and curses, and He encouraged them to choose life. (Deuteronomy 30:19) Every day you are given the same challenge. Are you going to focus on the negative or choose to look at things with the eyes of faith? Are you going to magnify the bad things going on or look at the positives in the picture?
Sometimes a simple adjustment of perspective can make a world of difference. The choice is yours to make.
